Diets and Recipes

Now if you own a sugar glider. These recipes will make great little treats. There not just great for your sugar glider but for your wallet too.

Peanut Butter Banana Sandwich

1 tbsp of peanut butter
1/2 tbsp of regular greek yogurt
5 thinly sliced pieces of banana
1/2 slice of whole wheat bread ( cubed )

On a small plate, take the banana and yogurt and mush them together with a fork. Then add the peanut butter and do the same. Mix well with the bread, and either put it in your sugar gliders food bowl or at the bottom of its cage. Your sugar glider will love this snack. Mine surley do.

Snack Balls

2 vegtables or fruits that you glider enjoys (diced small)
2-3 pieces of whole wheat bread (each piece will make 1 ball)
1 tbsp blueberry greek yogurt

With your veggie and/or fruit diced small. Soften the bread with water to where it becomes a doughy texture.  Seperate into how many pieces of bread the "dough" is made of. Mix some of the veggie/fruit mixture into the "dough". When done roll in the greek yogurt and serve.

This next recipe was just an experiment, but I figured out that sugar gliders go nuts for it. My breeding pair will even fight over a small spoonful of it.

Sticky Sludge ( the only name I could think of)

1 clemintine of orange
1/2 slice whole wheat bread
2 tbsp of strawberry or blueberry yogurt
a small handful of crushed cherrios

Peel and slice your orange, and put it in a small bowl. Then fill it up with water till it about covers the oranges. Heat in the mircrowave for a minute. Then strain them and put them aside. Take a morter and pestal (if you dont have one a bowl and spoon will work) and crush the cherrios. Then put in the oranges,  and mash them up with the crushed cherrios. Mix well and add the bread. Mix till slightly soft. Add in the yogurt and mix. Finally put it in some tin foil or storage container and put it in the fridge. Let it cool for the night.
Note: your sugar glider only will need one tea spoon of this rich snack 2 to 3 times a week

Peanut Butter Pecan Sticky Ball

A small handfull of fresh pecans
2 tsp of peanut butter (crunchy is recommended)

Slightly crush the pecans till they are just broken up a bit. You dont want little pieces, you want big pieces. Then just put in the peanut butter and mix. And there you go, just feed you glider this for a PERFECT Christmas Treat.

Diets for a Regular Pet and Breeding Sugar Glider

Now if you have a breeding pair of sugar gliders like I have (Their names are Rocky and Shadow, you can meet them at my other website soulfulbonds.com), you would read that they need a fresh healthy diet. Its true, they need fresh fruits and veggies. The recipes above would work perfectly. They also need grasshopper and mealworms. You can buy mealworms at some walmarts in the pet section. Grasshoppers, on the other hand, you need to catch yourself. They are most likley to be out and about on warm evenings.
Regular pet sugar gliders need sort of the same. I would also know since I own Rocky and Shadow first born, Thunder. You just need to remember that they dont need as much. About a quarter of what you would give to a breeding pairs diet is all they need. Regular parrot food is needed for each sugar glider. About half a handful for each sugar glider would be perfect.
